This is how any corporation functions. First, increasing profits is done by attracting more customers. Then, once they have all the customers they’re going to get, increasing profits is done by increasing prices or cutting costs.

See also, “We’re in a drought; conserve water!” Meanwhile, bottled water companies and golf courses for rich folk empty the aquifers.

I remember being a child... lawn water rations, shower flow reducers, dead tomato plants. Yet somehow... the golf courses were evergreen.ALT

weird how no one ever comments on the absence of smells unprompted. the nose just isn’t a topic of conversation unless it’s urgent huh

“it’s dark in here” normal regular observation

“finally some quiet” relatable exclamation

“doesn’t smell like anything in here” absolutely deranged sentence

Someone at an old job asked why I wanted to write up the meeting minutes for our team and I said ‘i wanna control the narrative’ and they were like 'what’ and I pointed out that no one was gonna remember what we said in six months and so my interpretation of the meeting would dictate the assumed reality of what happened

“none of you ever send corrections when I offer the draft so y'all have consented to my version”

“we don’t read that shit”

“you must trust me implicitly to create our shared reality that’s so sweet”

That’s how several coworkers decided I was a supervillain and how I learned several coworkers didn’t understand record keeping as like a CONCEPT

It’s weird to grow up in a family where you know you’re loved but you don’t feel loved. And then later in adulthood you understand how almost impossible it seems to cross that distance and let yourself experience closeness, how otherworldly love feels now and how love feels unbearable at times. You flinch when someone tries to wholeheartedly love you. And over and over you see so clearly how you cannot be loved unless it’s from afar and love is mixed with that familiar sensation of distance and coldness.

when Florence Welsh said “What a thing to admit that when someone looks at me with real love I don’t like it very much / Kinda makes me feel like I’m being crushed”
